# Sigil (Sigil.Web) v1.0.29.0 > Sigil is an e-signature service: upload a PDF or Word document with glyphs (short typed codes) marking where people sign, or place the fields by hand, send it to the signers in order as a pact, and get back a stamped PDF sealed with its sigil, a certificate of completion. There is a free plan; paid plans add several signers per pact, the drag-and-drop field editor, custom domains, and API and MCP access. Sigil is run by Darklight Interactive. The pages below are Markdown copies of the website's; each one's HTML is at the same URL without `.md` (the home page is https://www.signwithsigil.com/). The rest of our vocabulary follows from it. Each word, with its origin: https://www.signwithsigil.com/faq.md - **Sigil**: The certificate of completion attached to every sealed pact: who signed, when and from where, with the hashes that prove the document is unchanged. Also our name. - **Pact**: A document sent out for signature, with its signers, their fields and its whole history. Other services call it an envelope. - **Glyph**: A short code typed into your document, such as `\s1\`, that marks where a field goes and which signer fills it in. - **Sealed**: A pact is sealed when the last signer finishes: every field is stamped into the PDF, the sigil is attached, and everyone gets the copy. - **Lapsed**: A pact lapses when its signing deadline passes before everyone has signed. Its links stop working and nothing more can be signed. - **Void**: A pact the sender withdrew after sending it. Every link stops working at once. ## Developers - [Developer docs](https://docs.signwithsigil.com/llms.txt): The REST API and MCP server documentation, with its own llms.txt; all of it in one file at https://docs.signwithsigil.com/llms-full.txt. - [API reference](https://api.signwithsigil.com/v1): The JSON API reference as Markdown, served by the API itself; no key needed. - [MCP server](https://docs.signwithsigil.com/mcp.md): The hosted MCP server at https://api.signwithsigil.com/mcp: what an assistant can do with it and how to connect one. ## Optional - [Privacy policy](https://www.signwithsigil.com/privacy.md): What is collected from account holders and signers, why, who else sees it, how long it is kept, and your choices. - [Terms of use](https://www.signwithsigil.com/terms.md): Accounts, your documents, acceptable use, electronic signatures, plans and billing, custom domains, API access, liability and governing law. - [Contact](https://www.signwithsigil.com/contact): Questions about Sigil, feedback, or help with a pact: a form, answered by email.
